Aaron Wojciechowski Raises Concerns Over Port Washington Data Center, Calls for Environmental and Community Protections
Port Washington, WI – Aaron “WOJO” Wojciechowski, Democratic candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 6th District, issued a statement today addressing the proposed $8 billion data center campus in Port Washington. Expressing solidarity with local residents, Wojciechowski highlighted the risks to Lake Michigan, farmland, and community trust, urging a cautious approach to ensure the project aligns with WI-06’s values.
“As your candidate for U.S. Congress in Wisconsin’s 6th District which includes Port Washington, I share the concerns of its residents about the proposed $8 billion data center campus,” said Wojciechowski. “While economic development is important, the potential costs to our environment, farmland, and community trust outweigh the promised benefits. Here’s why we must approach this project with caution and demand better for WI-06.”
Protecting Our Lakes and Environment
“Our Great Lakes, especially Lake Michigan, are treasures that sustain our communities, from fishing to recreation. The possibility of using Lake Michigan water to cool this massive data center raises serious red flags. Data centers are notorious for high water and energy consumption, and without a clear, sustainable plan, this project risks straining our natural resources. Recent flooding in nearby areas like Germantown and Cedarburg reminds us how vulnerable our region is to environmental stress. This project demands strict oversight by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and transparent plans to ensure no harm comes to our lakes or ecosystems.”
Preserving Our Farmland
“WI-06 is the heart of Wisconsin’s agricultural heritage. The data center’s 1,900-acre footprint threatens to convert prime farmland into industrial sprawl. As someone committed to supporting our farmers, I’m deeply skeptical of sacrificing fertile land for a project that primarily serves corporate tech giants. Our family farms, not corporate data centers, are the backbone of our economy.”
Listening to Local Skepticism
“Port Washington residents deserve a voice in decisions that reshape their community. Many of you have expressed distrust in the project’s promises of jobs and economic growth, and I hear you. Too often, these mega-projects offer temporary construction jobs while long-term benefits flow to out-of-state corporations. The lack of clear communication from local leaders, as highlighted in recent council discussions, only fuels this skepticism. Unlike my opponent, Glenn Grothman, who has supported policies favoring corporate interests over local needs, I’ve pledged to hold monthly town halls to ensure your concerns drive my work in Congress.”
A Balanced Path Forward
“Economic growth shouldn’t come at the expense of our environment or community values. If elected, I’ll work to attract sustainable industries that create good-paying, local jobs without sacrificing our natural resources or farmland. This includes investing in green technology, supporting small businesses, and ensuring WI-06 remains a place where our children can thrive. We can embrace innovation—like AI for dairy farming, where only 8-10% of our farmers currently use advanced systems—while preserving what makes our district special.”
“I’m running to put WI-06 first, not corporate profits,” Wojciechowski concluded. “Join me in demanding transparency, environmental accountability, and a future that respects our land and lakes. Together, we can build an economy that works for all of us.
