Expand Access, Lower Costs, Protect Coverage
It’s time for a leader who will tackle our costly and broken health care system. My older sister, Shannen, battled diabetes and an enlarged heart for most of her life. As her condition worsened, she was forced to leave school, her days consumed by a relentless fight for survival. She never had the chance to graduate high school or become the first in our family to attend college. Her life became a cycle of endless doctor visits, with specialized treatment often out of reach. My family faced constant trips to Madison just to access the care she needed. No one prepares for the pain of losing a loved one until it strikes. Tragically, that became our reality. Losing Shannen was devastating, and the burden of endless medical bills only deepened our grief. Even now, my family carries the emotional and financial scars of her loss. Too many families have faced similar situation. I'm ready to fix that.
I’m committed to building a health care system that works for everyone, not just the insured or the wealthy. From the rural clinics of Fond du Lac to the hospitals in Oshkosh and Sheboygan, access to affordable, quality care is a right, not a privilege. My priorities revolve around expanding coverage, slashing high costs, and safeguarding essential services like maternal health, mental health, and preventive care. I know what it's like to get a bill that breaks the bank because I spent a good portion of my early adult life paying off a costly medical bill. I understand the struggle that so many Americans are facing with our health care system. That's why I’ll fight for a robust public option as a stepping stone to Medicare for All, hold big pharma accountable, protect a woman’s right to choose, decriminalize and legalize marijuana for medical and recreational use, and lower prescription costs. Together, we can create a healthier, fairer country where no family chooses between bills and care.
Wisconsin’s 6th District faces real health care hurdles: rural hospital closures, high prescription costs burdening seniors, rising maternal mortality rates (up 20% statewide since 2019), and a mental health crisis affecting 1 in 5 youth. In 2025, over 300,000 Wisconsinites remain uninsured, with costs averaging $7,200 per family—straining working families already hit by rising prices. Preventive care gaps contribute to chronic diseases, while big pharma’s price gouging adds $1,200 annually to seniors’ drug bills. Representative Glenn Grothman has failed us, voting against the Affordable Care Act expansion, supporting cuts to Medicaid that could strip coverage from 28,000 in similar districts, and opposing abortion rights and marijuana reform. His record prioritizes corporate profits over people. It’s time for change. My policies will expand access, protect choices, and lower costs, ensuring every resident gets the care they deserve.
Below is my plan to transform health care in our country for the people of Wisconsin’s 6th District. These policies support hardworking families, seniors, and workers, addressing our district’s unique needs while advancing us towards universal coverage.
Health care should be a right, not a luxury. I’ll champion a public option (government-run insurance competing with private plans) to cover everyone who needs it, lower premiums by 20-30%, and serve as a bridge to Medicare for All. This will expand access for the 300,000 uninsured Wisconsinites, including rural residents in our district facing long waits and high costs, where 43% of dental needs and 20% of mental health needs go unmet.
Why I’m Different: Grothman opposes Medicare expansion and public options, voting against ACA improvements that saved families $2,500 yearly. I’ll fight for universal coverage, not corporate handouts.
Maternal mortality in Wisconsin is alarmingly high, with Black women facing 3x the risk and overall rates up 20% since 2019. I’ll fund $18 million in Medicaid reimbursements for obstetric services, extend postpartum coverage to 12 months, and support doula programs and newborn screenings to ensure healthy starts for families in Sheboygan and beyond, addressing rural-urban disparities where underserved areas lag 10% in screenings.
Why I’m Different: Grothman’s votes to cut Medicaid threaten maternal programs, ignoring our state’s crisis. I’ll prioritize moms and babies, reducing disparities and saving lives.
1 in 5 Wisconsin youth face mental health challenges, yet access lags, especially in rural areas, with only 20% of needs met statewide. I’ll work to invest $300 million in school-based mental health, including counselors and crisis lines, plus telehealth for underserved communities, building on Gov. Evers’ 2025 Year of the Kid initiatives and addressing the 9% workforce vacancy rate in mental health providers.
Why I’m Different: Grothman supported budgets slashing mental health funding, worsening our crisis. I’ll ensure every family has stigma-free, timely support.
Preventive care saves lives and money, yet Wisconsin underfunds it, leading to higher chronic disease rates and 104 primary care Health Professional Shortage Areas. I’ll secure funding for screenings, vaccinations, and community health centers, aiming to cover 90% of residents without out-of-pocket costs and addressing gaps exposed by COVID, including funding for rural clinics and opioid treatment.
Why I’m Different: Grothman’s cuts to public health left us vulnerable; he opposed ACA preventive expansions. I’ll invest upfront to cut long-term costs and keep our district healthy.
Every woman deserves the right to make health decisions that affect their own body. I support codifying Roe v. Wade protections federally, funding reproductive clinics, and oppose restrictions that endanger lives. I want to ensure women have safe, legal abortion access in our district.
Why I’m Different: Grothman voted for Abortion bans that harm women and families. I’ll defend choice and bodily autonomy.
Our rural communities face stark disparities, with underserved areas 10% lower in colorectal screenings and tobacco-free rates among heart patients. I’ll work across the aisle to secure investments in rural clinics, telehealth expansion, and workforce recruitment to close gaps, ensuring equitable care from Waupun to Oostburg.
Why I’m Different: Grothman’s cuts exacerbate rural shortages; he opposed ACA expansions that reduced uninsured rates by 50% in similar areas. I’ll bridge the urban-rural divide.
Wisconsin loses over 1,500 lives yearly to opioids, with rural areas hit hardest. I’ll fight for $21 million in settlement grants for treatment, expand naloxone access, and integrate addiction services into primary care, reducing overdose rates by 20% through evidence-based programs.
Why I’m Different: Grothman’s limited action ignores the crisis; he opposed comprehensive funding. I’ll prioritize recovery and prevention for our communities.
Veterans in Wisconsin’s 6th District deserve seamless care, yet rural access lags. I’ll expand VA telehealth, fund recruitment for rural VA clinics, and integrate services with community health centers, addressing the 20% higher suicide risk among rural vets.
Why I’m Different: Grothman’s votes prioritize defense over vet-specific health; he opposed expanded VA funding. I’ll honor their service with accessible care.
Big pharma’s greed drives up costs, fueling the opioid crisis that’s devastated our communities with over 1,500 overdose deaths yearly. I’ll cap drug prices, ban kickbacks, and sue for damages from misleading marketing, saving families $500 yearly on essentials and addressing rural disparities in treatment access.
Why I’m Different: Grothman opposed drug price negotiations in the Inflation Reduction Act, letting pharma profits soar. I’ll crack down on corporate abuse to protect our families.
Marijuana legalization can cut prescription costs by 10-15% for pain management and generate $300 million in revenue for health programs. When I served on the Oshkosh City Council, I was successful in lowering the fine for possession, because no one should be in jail or financially ruined for smoking pot. In Congress, I’ll legalize for medical and recreational use, expunge records, and regulate safely which will ease the burden on seniors and rural clinics, while reducing opioid reliance.
Why I’m Different: Grothman opposes reform, voting against safe banking for cannabis businesses. I’ll end outdated bans, reduce costs, and support evidence-based care.
Seniors in Wisconsin pay $1,200 more yearly on drugs than needed, with rural areas facing higher barriers. I’ll expand Medicare negotiation and cap insulin at $35/month, saving $400 per senior in 2025 alone and addressing the 9% vacancy in long-term care staffing.
Why I’m Different: Grothman backed Project 2025 plans to repeal drug reforms, raising costs for 18 million seniors. I’ll fight for affordable meds so no one rations care.
Dental care gaps affect 100,000+ Wisconsinites, with only 43% of needs met, and long-term care faces 9% staffing vacancies. I’ll secure funding for low-income clinics and WisCaregiver programs, capping costs and recruiting providers to support aging seniors in our district.
Why I’m Different: Grothman’s budgets underfund these essentials, leading to closures. I’ll ensure dignified care for all.
I’m running for U.S. Congress because Wisconsin’s 6th District deserves a fighter for affordable, accessible health care, not someone beholden to big pharma or special interests. Growing up in Wisconsin, my family struggled. My parents worked long hours, we relied on free lunches, and my sister faced severe medical issues leading to crippling medical bills. Their perseverance fuels my passion to ensure no family endures that pain today. Glenn Grothman’s record of opposing ACA expansions, backing drug price hikes, and restricting rights puts profits over people. I’ll champion a public option to Medicare for All, protect maternal health, expand mental services, and hold pharma accountable, delivering real relief.
My policies are rooted in equity, access, and community. By expanding coverage, lowering costs, and protecting choices, we can build a system where every resident from seniors in Waupun to young families in Manitowoc thrives without fear. Together, we can make health care a cornerstone of our district’s strength.
